We talked a lot about the importance of phosphorus for plants. Phosphorus - one of the most important elements of plant nutrition after the organic matter and nitrogen. Phosphorus deficiency is often the limiting factor. The most common mistake – saving in the expense of phosphorus fertilizer, and in order to increase the effect – higher nitrogen fertilizer rates, but this solution - wrong.

Organic matter in crop production occupies a very important place because it has a lot of nitrogen and other nutrients needed for plants. A large part of phosphorous needed for plants is precisely in the organic matter. What is the problem today? Phosphorus problem is growing because of the intense farming, soil erosion. Also the yield takes out a lot of  phosphorus. Why people talking so much about phosphorus problem?

Plant roots absorb two forms phosphorus: in the soil, with pH below 7, the prevailing monophosphate (PO43-), soil pH value above 7, the predominant ions diphosphate (P2O4-). Both forms of phosphorus called orthophosphate.

The negatively charged phosphate anions in alkaline soils attract calcium cations and in acidic soils - iron, aluminum and manganese. As a result, in the soil is formed insoluble compounds. Phosphates amount which locks calcium, aluminum, manganese, iron ions depends on the soil pH. The cation concentration determines the amount of phosphorus in plants. There are up to 6 t/ha inaccesible phosphorus in the soil.

In this case, would phophorus (P) fertilizers help ? Farmers often save on phosphorus fertilizers and buy cheap ones. Fertilization experts say that in some P fertilizers there are 18-20 percent of active substance. It means that there are 80 percent of ballast, of which 1/5 consists alluminum and other elements: fluorine, iron, and even rare elements -  hafnium, zirconium, scandium.

Also there are fertilizers with active substance of 45-46 percent, that means less contaminants. The most dangerous is alluminum.

Recently, experts strongly emphasizes the damage of alluminum to human health and the environment. Soil aluminum is dangerous and strongly influences soil reactions, binds cations of potassium, sodium and other elements essential for plant. As a result, in Zemaitija (Region of Lithuania) we hear farmers saying: "I give phosphorus fertilizer, but can not get the results I could  get this soil." After the check of pH, everything becomes clear.

However, Zemaitija farmers are among the first who have found a solution. In combination with plant protection products or other biological agents they added bacteria Bacillus megaterium var. Phosphaticum product Fosfix.

Because there was a excess of unavailable phosphorus for the plants in the soil, Fosfix allowed farmers to reduce fertilizers application rate by 2-3 times and they got a big economic effect.

The bacteria Bacillus megaterium var. Phosphaticum lives in the soil, decomposes organic matter and releases containing phosphorus and transfers to the soluble forms of phosphoric acid. Later, thanks to the ongoing reaction of phosphoric acid compounds, becomes available compounds for the plant. Scientists say, that Bacillus megaterium var. Phosphaticum is very effective on fertile soils, but practice shows that they are highly effective and in less fertile soils.
